A fun day in the Atelier

 Thursdays are always fun days. While every day is a day for art, Thursday is a day for art in the Atelier. This Thursday we went early and spent the longest amount of time we could in there. Every table was filled with something, one with scissors and animal pictures, plus glue and glitter. one with water and watercolor paint, a staple this week, and one with dot markers and paper. I know this week they had so much to choose from they had no idea which table was their favorite! It's such a good time when we get to have scissors out because it helps with their fine motor movements and their communication on asking for help. Fine motor is such a big part of this age, and they all learn so quickly it can sometimes be shocking at how little instruction they really need from us. The more the year goes on it feels I'm learning more from them, than they are from me.

Back Like We Never Left!

  Oh, how wonderful our day really was!  I feel like all I have said for the past few weeks is Welcome Back or Welcome to our classroom, so forth and so on. I expected a little resistance in the beginning, maybe a few tears, but what I did not expect was just how quickly our Almond friends would jump right in to playing, exploring and making the experience their own. The morning started off with our friends finding their cubbies and placing their belongings inside, before I could even offer suggestions of where to explore; they were off to the races and playing with blocks, cars, puzzles and any dramatic play items they could get their hands on. It was absolutely beautiful and what I love most about working with these kiddos! They were indeed, back like they never left. Exploring Chalk!

 On Monday this week the art invitation was black paper and chalk. The kiddos love having chalk outside on the bike track or on the playground to cover the sidewalks in it. It's such a fun and easy activity that leaves the perfect kind of mess. It helps the kids fine motor skills as well so that's an extra added bonus. On Tuesday we decided to explore the different ways you can use chalk, one being, get it wet. The Almond kiddos got to see a little bit of a science experiment added to it when they dropped the chalk in the water and saw how the chalk reacted.. making bubbles as it started to dissolve. After letting it sit for a few minutes they took it out and used it on their black paper, creating chalk paint!  During small group, we talked about the different ways we could break chalk. The kids came up with using a hammer, their hands, throwing it on the floor, or stomping on it with their feet. We laid a big piece of black paper on the floor and let each kiddo choose a piece...

Davening Mornings!

"Okay Friend's it's time for Davening!"   Every morning at 8:40 our sweet friend's the Grossbaum's come in and do davening with us. It doesn't take much to get them to stop what they're doing and run to the carpet to get ready to sing and dance with them. They are loving sitting with them on the carpet and learning and singing Jewish songs. Our kiddos are learning Hebrew through the songs and have caught on very quickly; I hear them singing and dancing to them throughout the day! They follow along and do the gestures and it's just so fun getting to see them catch on and be ready every day for Tzedakah or to hug their Torah's. The Almond room's favorite thing to sing lately is "Let's be friends and join together. Oh, let's be friend's now and forever" because they can hold hands with their friends and share their happiness! It has become a great way to help with transitions to our next activities as well.
